Nowhere Near (2016)

Art Projects

The work featured strangers on the streets, each seemingly with a story of their own to tell.

“Nowhere Near” was a panoramic piece completed by Sarah Choo, an established artist, photographer and videographer whose works often depict urban isolation and social alienation. The narrational artwork created in 2015 was composed entirely with photos and videos of places in Paris, London, and New York, effectively depicting a vague somewhere that is everywhere yet nowhere. The work featured strangers on the streets, each seemingly with a story of their own to tell. This inspired the use of a story book as a shell to store thumbdrive containing the panoramic video. The plastic cover of the book featured coordinates of the three cities across the world, and the removal of the book with its printed belly-band implied the book’s movement across time and space.
